In a bold live on-air move, Ali Clarke’s new-look radio show on Mix 102.3 has received a mixed bag of reviews after opening the phones to listeners.

All week, the radio host asked fans to call in with their honest feedback of how the new trio, including Shane Lowe and Max Burford, were faring.

There were no holds barred when the show’s supporters - and detractors - weighed in, with hundreds of positive messages and calls, but a few more brutal on-air responses.

One listener called Ali out for being an “oversharer”, to which she cheekily replied: “It’s cheaper than therapy”.

The second listener went on to call Shane Lowe “dumb”, while another listener called Bec took aim, saying the trio lacked decent “banter” and asking where former co-host Erin Phillips was.

Clarke unveiled Mix’s new line-up late last year, announcing that Ten sports presenter Burford would be joining her and Lowe for 2023.

On Wednesday, after almost three weeks on the airwaves, Clarke asked listeners: “What’s something we can do to make your life better on this show, because this show is for you.”

Bracing themselves for the ugly side of listener feedback, Clarke went on to jokingly question whether the new hosts could handle the truth - especially when the audience questioned the “new guy”, in reference to Burford.

A Mix 102.3 spokesperson said they welcomed all feedback good, bad and ugly - and chose to air some of the listeners’ more savage grievances this morning for “a bit of fun”.

“As Ali has been saying all week on air, we are the only radio station letting the people of Adelaide tell us their first impressions of a brand new show,” a spokesperson said.

“We have received hundreds of positive messages and calls thanking us for the show.

“We continue to welcome all feedback so we can put together a great show for the people of our city on Adelaide’s Number 1 radio station.”

The revised line-up of the breakfast show replaced Erin Phillips and Eddie Bannon as the main stars after 2022 saw the breakfast show constantly slip down the ratings.

The Ali Clarke Breakfast Show finished in fifth spot last year, despite a 0.7 rise to 9.0 share points.
