Adelaide radio ratings: FIVEaa duo David Penberthy and Will Goodings stay on top as no. 1 breakfast show

The shock sacking of one of the biggest names on Adelaide radio does not appear to have had the desired effect, with the station dropping in the latest rating rankings.

FIVEaa duo David Penberthy and “the busiest man in Adelaide media” Will Goodings have closed out the ratings year as Adelaide’s No. 1 breakfast show, while Mix 102.3’s Ali Clarke Breakfast Show has had its first rankings rise since May.

Penberthy and Goodings retained top spot in 2022’s final survey, which covers 25 September to 3 December, finishing with 16.5 share points, up 1.3 from November – comfortably clear of ABC Adelaide’s Stacey Lee and Nikolai Beilharz (13.6).

Earlier this month, Goodings was revealed as one of Channel 7 stalwart Jane Doyle’s replacements, taking the helm of 7NEWS Adelaide’s 6pm bulletin alongside veteran presenter Rosanna Mangiarelli.

News of former Mix 102.3 ratings winner Mark Soderstrom’s return to the airwaves in 2023 wasn’t enough to save SAFM from end-of-year pain following the shock sacking of Andrew ‘Cosi’ Costello in October.

Rebecca Morse and Anthony ‘Lehmo’ Lehmann dropped 0.1 share points to finish in sixth spot on the ratings (8.4), with Lehmann heading to Triple M Melbourne next year to make way for Soderstrom’s radio revival.

Mix 102.3 closed off the year with 9.0 share points – an increase of 0.7 – scraping ahead of SAFM to finish off the year in fifth spot, just a week after the program’s executive producer jumped ship to rival commercial network Nova.

Ten sports presenter Max Burford will join the Ali Clarke Breakfast Show in January 2023 alongside Clarke, Shane Lowe and Eddie Bannon.

December’s ratings mark a year since Clarke announced her departure from her dial-winning role at ABC Adelaide, citing “family reasons” as the reason for the move.

Triple M’s Mark Ricciuto, Chris Dittmar and Laura O’Callaghan retained third spot – and first place on the FM dial – ahead of Nova 919’s outgoing Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton.

Harvey and Stapleton (9.3) suffered a second consecutive fall, dropping a further 1.0 in their final survey before jumping ship to Nova Melbourne.

The duo will still be heard from 6am-7am each morning in Adelaide – with the addition of longtime producer Belle Jackson – while top-rating Mix host Jodie Oddy and ex-SEN sports radio presenter Andrew Hayes will take the reins from 7-9am weekdays.

Mix 102.3 held on to the overall market share in the 10+ demographic, with 11.8 share points, followed closely by FIVEaa (11.1), Nova (10.1) and Triple M (9.8).

SAFM and the ABC tied for fifth spot (9.1) while Cruise 1323 landed in sixth (8.9).
