Adelaide fans hoping to see Katy Perry light up the stage this week will be crossing their fingers the pop superstar recovers in time – after she revealed she had fallen ill during a secret stay on Kangaroo Island.
The Firework singer jetted into South Australia last Friday for a surprise holiday with her daughter Daisy, ahead of her four-night run at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
Wearing dark sunglasses and a baseball cap, Perry was spotted stepping off a private jet at Kingscote airport, before heading to the Southern Ocean Lodge perched above Hanson Bay.
But while enjoying her downtime, the US singer was struck down by a random fever.
In a video published by 7News, Perry is seen greeting local fans near the airport on Friday, keeping a cautious distance as she poses for photos.
“Yes, but I got very sick last night,” she tells a man who asked if she was enjoying her stay. “I’m trying not to get her sick. I had a random fever.”
Despite felling unwell, Perry continued to smile, sign autographs, hug fans and crack jokes, even when asked which Aussie gig had been her favourite so far.
“It’s going to be Adelaide,” one fan jumped in.
Perry laughed and echoed: “It’s going to be Adelaide. That’s right.”
She added: “I had a really great time, I think, at the last Melbourne show. Maybe I ran myself out.”
Perry is set to return to Adelaide this week, with shows on Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday – part of her 15-date Australian tour.
The concerts came together after Premier Peter Malinauskas pitched the idea in a last-minute AFL Grand Final day meeting. While the state didn’t pay Perry directly, a deal was struck to slash venue fees to secure her SA leg.
