US singer Katy Perry tipped to draw more than 35,000 fans to her Lifetimes Tour Adelaide concerts which kick off on Thursday

Adelaide will roar this week thanks to Katy Perry and her legion of fans, with the US singer’s concert run described as the ‘most significant’ the city has seen in years.

Katy Perry hysteria is set to sweep the state, with more than 35,000 fans tipped to attend the US pop star’s quartet of Adelaide shows and give the city’s struggling hospitality sector a major winter boost.

The Firework singer, who’s spent the last couple of days holidaying on Kangaroo Island, will head back to town this week as she kicks off a run of concerts at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

More than 9000 people are expected at each show, with AEC general manager Kate Russo describing it as “the most significant concert run we’ve had by a single artist” in many years.

“Preparations started the minute the shows were announced … and after months of careful planning, all is on track for four big nights,” she said.

Perry initially left Adelaide off her schedule but thanks to a personal plea from Premier Peter Malinauskas at last year’s AFL grand final, she will bring her Lifetimes Tour show to the city on Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday night.

A limited number of seats are still available for each gig, including selected Klub 143 tickets priced at just over $1000. The standing section ticket is located right next to the stage and includes a behind-the-scenes tour, VIP entry and exclusive bar access with two drink tokens, among a host of features.

After a rogue fan stormed the stage and disrupted one of Perry’s Sydney concerts, Ms Russo said the venue had been working closely with her management team to ensure “a comprehensive level of security” for the US singer.

“Our team is highly experienced in hosting events of this magnitude and will be implementing our standard event measures for an event of this scale,” she said.

For hospitality business owners battling through the traditionally quieter winter period, Perry’s arrival is a godsend.

Australian Hotels Association SA chief executive Anna Moeller said the concerts would provide a significant revenue boost of up to 40 per cent for city operators and those near the Entertainment Centre in Hindmarsh.

“Katy Perry is fantastic for our industry and for the state,” she said.

“Her shows will give an extra injection during winter, when there’s a notorious dip.

“It will be great for hotels, with people coming from the regions to make a long weekend of it, and also provide an uplift for food and beverage (businesses).”

Adelaide Economic Development Agency chairman Steve Maras said Perry would not only provide an economic spike but strengthen the city’s reputation as an “event-friendly destination”.

“Economic benefits will extend well beyond the concert precinct, flowing into the city as visitors and locals alike shop, dine, stay the night and enjoy everything Adelaide has to offer,” he said.

Perry surprised her SA fans by jetting into the state a week early for a quick getaway at Kangaroo Island’s luxury resort Southern Ocean Lodge. Perry and her four-year-old daughter Daisy have been holidaying at the five-star accommodation – where rooms start at $3400 a night – since Thursday. She will next perform two shows in Perth on Sunday and Monday before returning to SA.
