Nova’s new breakfast duo has pulled out the big guns in the bid for ratings glory, enlisting Premier Peter Malinauskas to “take over” the airwaves.
On Thursday morning, Mr Malinauskas hosted the Nova 91.9 breakfast show alongside Jodie Oddy in a premier “job swap” – with Oddy’s co-host Andrew Hayes “running the state” for the day.
Mr Malinauskas seemingly slipped in a cheeky jab at last week’s New Year’s Test uproar when asked how Hayes would fare in the state’s top job.
“I’m entirely relaxed about it, what could possibly go wrong. Everything will be solved in the next 24 hours, ramping crisis will be finished, the NFL Superbowl will be making its way to Adelaide,” he said.
But the premier’s radio appearance was short lived, playing a quick game of “dead or alive” before exiting the studio after all of 10 minutes.
“He muttered something about running our state,” Oddy told listeners when the premier bailed out.
The job swap stunt is Mr Malinauskas’ second media appearance this week, with the premier cooking a BBQ in his own backyard for Channel 10’s new weather presenter Tiff Warne on Monday.
Nova will have high hopes their stunt pays off for the revamped breakfast crew, who have big shoes to fill after the departure of FM kings Ben & Liam.
Former top-rating Mix 102.3 star Oddy returned to the breakfast timeslot two years after her departure from Mix, while Hayes jumped ship from the SEN breakfast show, which he co-hosted with Kane Cornes.
But they weren’t the only station pulling out the big guns early in the ratings period, with Oddy’s former co-host Mark Soderstrom and his SAFM breakfast partner Rebecca Morse enlisting swimming superstar Kyle Chalmers for a memorable moment.
In a bold on-air move, the revamped Ali Clarke Breakfast show opened its phones for listener feedback last week – with “hundreds of positive callers”, but a couple of brutal reviews.
The first ratings results of the year will be in on March 16.
