South Australian fitness guru Kayla Itsines has opened up on social media about her experience with a panic attack and how her partner supported her through it.

In a post to Instagram, Itsines shared how she battled a “full blown” panic attack which left her “in a ball on the couch”.

“My eyes are so sore, my chest heavy and still, five hours later it hurts to breathe.

“Panic attacks are NO JOKE,” Itsines wrote to her more than 15m followers on Instagram.

She empathised with people who experience panic attacks as she described the experience as “the worst feeling”.

“I’m SO SORRY to anyone who suffers this regularly,” she said.

Itsines said she does not often have panic attacks and “can’t even remember the last time” she experienced one.

Her post detailed how the attack was brought on by a “recurring nightmare” Itsines had as a child.

But in a twist to the story, Itsines revealed that her “nightmare” was real in an update posted on social media.

After sharing the episode with her father, he responded, “I was there, standing behind you, that actually happened”.

She went on to detail the events of her childhood which she previously believed to be a nightmare.

“Here’s the part I struggle with most, trying to explain this out loud … but here it is.”

Itsines details an event where, as a child, she was picked up by her father’s friend and she becomes scared.

She clarifies that he was “obviously joking around”.

Itsines describes feeling discomfort during the incident.

“My ribs feel like they are being crushed into my body, I can’t breathe,” she recalled.

After asking him to let go, she describes how “he doesn’t put me down”.

“I’m in so much pain I just want it to stop.

“I feel like I’m so high in the air and I can’t do anything about it.

“My ribs are burning, I keep counting down from 10, ‘just let go’ I think to myself.”

Her dream ends as she is finally put down and she remembers that her “ribs are burning”.

She received support from her fiance Jae Woodroffe following the panic attack.

“He just gave me a kiss on the head and got me some water,” Itsines wrote.

“Then he called his mum (who lives next door) to come watch Jax and took me to dinner.”

Itsines gave birth to her second child, Jax, last month.

“Words absolutely cannot describe this feeling. We are SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW,” Itsines wrote after she gave birth, adding: “We went into hospital around 6.30am on the 5th of January.

He was out in the world by 8.45am weighing 3.5 kgs (7.72 pounds).”

Itsines also shared the adorable moment her three-year-old daughter, Arna – from her relationship with ex-fiance Tobi Pearce – met her baby boy in a gorgeous video posted to Instagram.

“I’m loving my baby,” Arna said while holding baby Jax.
