Hollywood star Zac Efron gets a mullet haircut in Adelaide before jetting out of South Australia

The Hollywood star couldn’t call cut on his time in SA without rocking our unofficial hair-do. Behold, the Efron mullet.

It’s the quintessential South Australian haircut so it’s only fitting Hollywood star Zac Efron would get a mullet after spending five weeks around the state.

The US actor popped into Kent Town barber Attaboy today for a quick trim after finishing filming on his new movie, Gold, which was shot in the SA outback.

Salon owner Robby Lippett said Efron was looking for a “tidy up” following his stint on the set, and was happy to try out the iconic SA hairstyle.

“He came in, he was looking pretty rugged … and we were sort of joking about the mullet and he went, ‘Yeah let’s do it’,” said Mr Lippett, who organised the visit through Efron’s Australian personal trainer.

“It’s obviously only prepping the mullet, it’s nothing too long and dirty but it was a pretty good laugh. But he loved it, his personal trainer has one as well.”

It’s understood Efron was joined by his Australian girlfriend, Vanessa Valladares, at the salon, with the couple jetting out of SA straight after his hair appointment.

The High School Musical star, who’s been filming the Stan original movie in Leigh Creek and the Flinders Ranges, later turned barber, giving Mr Lippett a taste of his own medicine.

“That was just for a laugh. He took a couple of chunks out of the top, nothing too crazy, just a bit of fun,” said Mr Lippett, who also owns Attaboy shops in Richmond and St Agnes.

Describing Efron as a “top dude”, Mr Lippett said the star – who’s based in Byron Bay – had really enjoyed his time in SA and was hoping to come back for a holiday in the middle of next year.

“He absolutely loves South Australia. He really wants to get back here and check out the river, and our awesome wineries and beaches,” he said.

Efron’s film Gold, which centres on two men who find an enormous gold nugget in the Outback, also stars Susie Porter and Animal Kingdom’s Anthony Hayes, who is directing the movie.

He arrived in Adelaide last month, spending two weeks in the city before production moved to Leigh Creek.

Efron shared a behind-the-scenes look of the made-for-TV film last week, a picture of himself, holding his mobile aloft in a makeshift tent in the middle of nowhere, which was captioned: “No signal out here in the desert.”
