Mark Soderstrom’s appeared on Channel 7 news Thursday night, despite his other employer, radio station Mix 102.3, saying he is unwell.
On Thursday morning, Soda and his co-host, Crows AFLW star Erin Phillips, were absent, without explanation, from their breakfast radio show.
Instead, the crucial timeslot was filled with music and hosted by regular anchor Shane Lowe, a former employee of rival station Nova 919.
A spokeswoman informed The Advertiser Thursday afternoon: “The Mix 102.3 Breakfast Show was off air this morning as Mark Soderstrom was unwell. Mark has been signed off work until the end of the week, so the show will be off air tomorrow, too. Shane Lowe will present a music show tomorrow.”
Appearing on Channel 7’s 6pm news Thursday night, Soda presented his usual sports segment.
Erin & Soda achieved the No. 1 FM program in the all-important breakfast timeslot in the first radio ratings for 2021 released earlier this month.
The survey results were also the first since Soda’s former co-host Jodie Oddy resigned effective immediately in November, after 13 years at Mix.
Both she and the station declined to give a reason for her shock exit, Jodie saying she was unable to comment for legal reasons.
The Advertiser contacted Mix 102.3 for comment following Soda’s TV appearance. Mix 102.3 declined to comment further on their employee’s health.
