In the fiercely competitive world of commercial radio, mentioning a rival station on-air is a definite no-no.
But that’s exactly what Jodie Oddy’s done over at Nova 919, where she’s name checked her former employer Mix 102.3.
And Oddy, who admits she’s been doing it tough, did it with Nova’s blessing.
Oddy is doing a five-day stint at Nova as the Ben & Liam brekky show’s newsreader. She is filling in for Taylee Jones, who is currently on annual leave
This morning, Oddy finally got to say farewell to her Mix listeners.
The goodbye came more than two months after her shock departure from the station.
In November, Oddy quit her role as Mix breakfast’s co-host effective immediately, telling The Advertiser she was unable to comment for legal reasons.
Chatting on-air during the Ben & Liam show to hosts Ben Harvey and Liam Stapleton this morning, Oddy broke her silence … as much as she could.
Admitting to “ghosting” her Mix listeners by not saying bye to them on-air, she said: “I am a bit sad about it because it didn't afford me the opportunity to say goodbye to, primarily, the people that supported me for the 13 years that I was on Mix.”
Oddy she had been “overwhelmed” by the support she had received from people, who had messaged her or stopped her on the street, since she had left Mix.
And she also laughed off the haters: “There was one guy who said ‘that girl’s a cockroach, she just won’t die’,” Oddy said, referring to an online troll’s comment regarding her appointment at Nova.
Oddy also thanked Harvey and Stapleton and Nova’s program director Ben Latimer for “extending an olive branch” by giving her the fill-in gig and the opportunity to officially say farewell to Mix listeners.
“It’s really heartening after the experience of the last couple of months and, I’m not going to bull … you, it’s been, in parts, really sad,” Oddy told Harvey and Stapleton, adding: “I can’t legally say what’s happened but some of it’s been really tough. So, I really relish the opportunity to come over here and you two are really nice boys.”
Oddy’s stint at Nova is due to finish on Friday. Her replacement at Mix, Erin Phillips, has been co-hosting its breakfast show with Mark Soderstrom since Monday, January 11.
