Jodie Oddy is yet to break her silence as to why she quit Mix 102.3, but the support she’s receiving speaks volumes about her popularity.
On Thursday, Jodie, pictured at last year’s Australian Commercial Radio Awards, resigned from the station effective immediately.
When contacted, she told us she was unable to comment for legal reasons. Jodie had been at Mix for 13 years. During that time she clocked up an impressive 81 ratings’ wins in the FM breakfast timeslot, helping to make Mix Adelaide’s No. 1 station.
Since her shock departure, local and national media identities have rallied around her. Women, in particular, have been vocal in their show of support.
Adelaide Fringe star Em Rusciano took to Instagram to sing Jodie’s praises. Em, who has also worked in radio, shared photos of Jodie with her more than 200,000 followers.
“I want to acknowledge this absolute POWERHOUSE,” Em captioned the pics posted on Friday, also writing: “Yesterday was apparently her last day, I don’t quite understand it (but really I think I do) but lady – I see you. I love you. You have bigger and better things to come.”
Em also referred to Jodie and Mark Soderstrom’s victory in the most recent radio ratings. They were the top rating FM brekky show after gaining 2.0 share points on the results of the previous survey taken when Erin Phillips was filling in for Jodie who was on maternity leave. “You’ve gone out at number one. Breakfast radio ain’t for the faint hearted that’s for sure. You’re a legend,” Em wrote.
When Jodie posted the Dr Seuss quote, “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened”, on Instagram, the who’s who of local media stepped up to show they have her back.
Those responding to the post included Channel 7’s Rosanna Mangiarelli, Ten weather presenter Kate Freebairn and Rebecca Morse. Bec, who had to say goodbye to her position as Channel 10’s newsreader when the Adelaide bulletin moved to Melbourne, is part of SAFM’s brekky team.
Another former rival in the radio ratings battle, Hayley Pearson, who was a brekky presenter for Nova, responded: “Dr Seuss also said ... You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself ANY direction you choose.”
But it wasn’t just women giving Jodie a shout out: Channel 7’s Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac, who hails from SA, also had his say: “Sensational job Jodie! You should be very proud. Looking forward to the next chapter.”
