South Coast nurse reveals why she signed up for Farmer Wants a Wife

A NSW nurse has revealed how being confronted with life and death situations inspired her pursuit for love on Farmer Wants a Wife.

Working on the front lines during the Covid-19 pandemic has certainly taken an emotional toll on Mackenzie Phillips.

The 24-year-old oncology nurse, who hails from the South Coast, is often met with confronting scenes in hospital and says witnessing life or death situations daily has put into perspective what’s truly important in life - family.

Phillips hopes to start her own family one day which is why she decided to sign up for Channel 7’s Farmer Wants a Wife.

Phillips is hoping to find love with Farmer Sam Messina.

“Throughout my career as an oncology nurse, I have seen couples battle through the sickness and health that they vow to do on their wedding day.

“Within that there are many challenges and milestones that they overcome together and this strengthens their love and their bond. This has definitely inspired me to try and find a relationship like that for myself.”

Phillips is vying for the affection of sheep and crop farmer Sam Messina, 25, and the pair are already off to a promising start after forming an instant connection on the show this week.

She said while looks are important, character is a top priority.

“Physical attraction definitely has its place but for me it definitely isn’t a major thing,” she said.

“I more look for characteristics such as someone who is kind, caring, honest and faithful.”

Farmer Wants a Wife airs Sunday 7pm and Monday to Wednesday 7:30pm on Channel 7 and 7plus.
