Chris Hemsworth is back on home soil.
The Australian actor, 40, has been spotted enjoying a midwinter surf in his hometown of Byron Bay following a busy few months overseas.
The Marvel star was seen showing off his jacked figure after braving the chilly water temperature during a surf session with his long-term friend and personal trainer Luke Zocchi.
It comes after Hemsworth’s appearance at San Diego Comic-Con last weekend to promote his upcoming movie Transformers One, in which he voices Optimus Prime.
Prior to that, he spent weeks on a global press tour for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in late May.
Now, Hemsworth is back home and on solo dad duties for his twin sons Sasha and Tristan, while wife Elsa Pataky, 48, shoots a TV series in her home country of Spain. The pair, who married in 2010, also share daughter India Rose.
It seems Hemsworth has already run amok in Pataky’s absence, with the star sharing photos of his sons’ striking new haircuts, courtesy of his own cutting skills, on Instagram Monday.
“Hairdressing has always been my one true passion and as you can see the results speak for themselves,” he wrote alongside a series of laugh-face emojis.
In another photo shared on the same post, Hemsworth’s sons showed off their new haircuts at the local bakery in the northern NSW town of Lennox Head, which is just south of Byron.
It prompted dozens of Marvel fans to ask the same question in the comment section, “Is this why Thor cried?”
They’re referencing a recurring line in Ryan Reynolds’ latest record-breaking Deadpool film, Deadpool and Wolverine, which hit cinemas in late July.
The R-rated movie included a mini cameo from Hemsworth’s character Thor, who featured briefly during a vision from the future which showed the God of Thunder crying as he held Deadpool’s seemingly dying body.
Reynolds’ character Deadpool/Wade Wilson frantically begs to understand why Thor was crying, before asking this question twice more at random points during the film’s two-hour run time.
Afterwards, Reynolds took to X to tease fans further, writing, “I know why Thor was crying. I can’t un-know it.”
Hemsworth responded just as cryptically, saying, “I can keep secrets too.”
There’s currently no confirmed plans for a fourth Deadpool, nor has Marvel Studios announced a fifth Thor movie after 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder, though the latter is speculated to be in development.
There are, however, two new Avengers movies coming up which could very well see Deadpool and Thor unite for the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Robert Downey Jr. is sensationally returning to the franchise for the upcoming films as a new character, villain Doctor Doom, after his beloved Iron Man died saving the universe in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
Avengers: Doomsday will hit cinemas May 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars is set to be released in May 2027.
In the meantime, Hemsworth has been savouring some down time in Byron, where he’s been quietly supporting the local homeless centre, Fletcher Street Cottage.
In a statement shared with Byron magazine, a spokesperson for the community-funded service said Hemsworth had made a “significant donation”.
“The Fletcher Street Cottage team are extremely grateful to Chris for this generous donation,” Acting Manager Helen Hamilton said.
“It will enable the service to keep running and provide certainty for the months ahead. We know the changes in people’s lives that these funds will facilitate because we see it every day.”
