Ryan Reynolds sparks fan frenzy with cryptic Chris Hemsworth tweet

Ryan Reynolds has addressed a recurring Chris Hemsworth reference in the latest Deadpool film, and it’s sent Marvel fans into a right spin.

Warning: Minor Deadpool and Wolverine spoilers ahead

If you’ve seen the latest Deadpool film, you no doubt clocked several references to Chris Hemsworth’s character Thor.

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Wolverine, co-starring Hugh Jackman, stormed into cinemas last Thursday and has since made a staggering $US550 million in its opening week.

The R-rated Marvel Studios movie was, expectedly, armed with endless gags from the unorthodox hero, high energy fight sequences and a glittering assortment of cameos from franchise greats.

One of those cameos included Hemsworth, with the Australian actor’s God of Thunder featuring briefly on a television screen inside the Time Variance Authority headquarters. Thor could be seen crying in a snippet from the future as he holds Deadpool’s dying body.

Reynolds’ Wade Wilson immediately clocks the vision, frantically begging to understand why Thor was crying. He asks this question twice more at random points during the film’s two-hour run time.

Now, Reynolds has addressed the question in a painfully cryptic post on his X account, sharing a photo of the moment with the caption, “I know why Thor was crying. I can’t unknow it.”

Suffice to say, Marvel diehards are in a frenzied state, urging Reynolds to spill more detail.

“TELL US RYAN PLEASE,” one fan wrote.

“I can’t wait to know why he was crying. Next sequel?” another asked.

“Sir, the world is waiting for a reason,” a third said.

“Waiting for Thor x Deadpool.”

Given the multi-layered, convoluted space that is the MCU, it’s anyone’s guess as to what Reynolds is hinting at.

There’s currently no confirmed plans for a fourth Deadpool, nor has Marvel Studios announced a fifth Thor movie after 2022’s lacklustre Thor: Love and Thunder, though the latter is speculated to be in development.

There are, however, two new Avengers movies coming up, and Deadpool is primed to feature having finally made his official entry to the MCU with the latest release.

The Hollywood studio took over San Diego Comic-Con at the weekend with perhaps the biggest announcement to come out of Marvel HQ in recent years, with Robert Downey Jr. returning to the franchise as a new character, villain Doctor Doom, after his beloved Iron Man died saving the universe in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

Russo brothers Joe and Anthony have been tapped to direct the two new Avengers films in which Downey Jr. will star.

They include Avengers: Doomsday, due out in May 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars, set to be released in May 2027.
