Channel 7 sports presenter Mark Soderstrom heading to ABC Adelaide radio

Four months after he quit breakfast radio, a popular media personality has revealed he’s heading back to the airwaves.

SAFM Adelaide's Bec & Soda axed

Mark Soderstrom is making a surprise return to the airwaves, four months after he quit breakfast radio.

The popular 7News sports presenter will join ABC’s SA Grandstand AFL coverage, calling Crows and Power matches at Adelaide Oval alongside Aaron Bryans.

Soderstrom will also make regular appearances on the station’s breakfast program with Sonya Feldhoff and Jules Schiller, talking all things footy.

The former SAFM breakfast show host said he was “grateful” to get a chance to call AFL football.

“I’m happy to pop back behind the mic, it’s been a long time, all of about four months,” Soderstrom said.

“I can’t wait for the season to finally start because it’s a massive year for both clubs here in SA. Can the Power send Ken off with a bang? Can the Crows put any overseas trips off until October?”

Soderstrom and his Seven colleague, fellow sports presenter Tom Wilson, will alternate matches throughout season 2025. He will also continue as one of Channel 7’s AFL boundary riders.

Soderstrom was previously part of Triple M’s footy lineup when he was working with sister station SAFM.

ABC Sport content director Tim Verrall said they were “thrilled” to have the experienced broadcaster on-board for the new season.

“Soda is well known and loved by the Adelaide audience and is part of our commitment to having more local voices as part of our AFL coverage this year,” he said.

In October, the 55-year-old announced live on-air that he was quitting his SAFM breakfast show, Bec and Soda, with Rebecca Morse.

Soderstrom told listeners that he was left with no choice but to step away from the microphone.

“Life has changed for me recently and I’m facing the biggest challenge of my life and I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and it’s been pretty tough,” he said.

“I have the three most important reasons in my life why I have to tell you that I have to make the decision to step away from breakfast radio.

“It’s not even a decision I have to make – it’s something I have to do because I have a fair bit on my plate.”

It’s understood that Soderstrom decided to prioritise time with his young family ahead of the demands of breakfast radio but he admitted he was going to “miss the job”.

“I actually wish I didn’t have to do this. I love doing this job more than any job in my life,” he said at the time.

Among ABC’s suite of experts returning for the new AFL season include Scott Thompson, Troy Bond, Ebony Marinoff, Dean Brogan, Josh Francou and Rod Jameson.
