A 7NEWS Adelaide star has been left injured after falling off his bike during a Down Under sponsors’ ride.

A 7NEWS Adelaide star got more Tour Down Under action than he bargained for on Wednesday.

While riding in a sponsors event, Adelaide TV and radio favourite Mark Soderstrom fell off his bike and injured himself.

Soderstrom, affectionately known as Soda, broke his hand and received grazes on his face resulting from the tumble.

Not letting his viewers or crew down, Soderstrom valiantly took to the screen for the 6pm bulletin, but 7NEWS Adelaide news director Mark Mooney said it was a difficult one for the makeup crew.

“Shout out to our makeup guru Suzanne Charnstrom for getting him camera-ready for tonight’s bulletin,” Mooney said.

Soderstrom came a cropper soon after leaving the Tour Village in the Adelaide CBD.

“Mate, I’m ridiculous,” he told The Advertiser. “It was an executive ride, a sponsors’ ride and we had to ride 80km from the tour village to Tanunda where the stage was starting.

“I’d love to say that I was descending down a hill at 100km/h, showing enormous courage, but I’d be lying.

“I had a little incident with the traffic island going pretty low speed at the start. It was just a little small island in the city and I went straight over the handlebars.”

“I ended up breaking my hand and I’ve taken a bit of bark off my face. The only saving grace was my chompers didn’t get smashed. I decided I would just jump back on my bike and finish the ride and then I got it checked out afterwards and it ended up being a broken hand.”

Despite breaking his hand, Soda continued on and finished the sponsors’ event.
