It was just about broke the internet over the weekend, but Taylor Swift’s selfie with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince William reportedly almost didn’t even happen.
The future king spent his 42nd birthday on Friday dancing around with around 90,000 other fans at the sold-out Wembley Stadium show, shortly after taking his kids for a quick meet-and-greet with the singer backstage.
In the cute photo, George, 10, and Charlotte, nine, are seen grinning alongside their dad as they pose with Swift and her NFL star boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
“Thank you Taylor Swift for a great evening!” was the caption on the photo, which was shared on the Wales’ official social media accounts.
However, a royal insider told Hello magazine that there was actually chaos behind the scenes ahead of the star-studded snap.
“They [the royals] had a nightmare getting in, they were running really late but they had planned to get there earlier so they could have the meet and greet with Taylor beforehand because they knew they wanted to leave early,” the source said.
“They only had 25 minutes to spare so had a quick meet and greet and then went up to their box before the show, and there was a bit of stress and panic about that because it was taking too long.”
They also claimed that the Prince of Wales and his two eldest children had attempted to keep a low profile by staying toward the back of their box – but a clip of William enthusiastically dancing to Shake It Off managed to go viral anyway.
Also present in their VIP area was William’s cousin, Zara Tindall, her husband Mike, and their daughters, Mia, 10, and Lena, five.
Meanwhile, it’s understood William and Swift’s friendship goes back at least 11 years, having reportedly first met in 2013 when they famously gave an impromptu performance of Livin’ On A Prayer alongside Jon Bon Jovi at a charity event in Kensington Palace.
