Prince William spotted dancing, generally going bananas while taking kids George and Charlotte to Taylor Swift concert

The future king was filmed in the crowd at Taylor Swift’s London concert having an even better time than his children.

Are you ready for it?

I believe it is journalistic tradition that, when one is writing about a confluence of different celebrities, one makes a series of excruciatingly lame puns.

Many a colleague would, I’m sure, disagree. But it’s Saturday night, and news.com.au has a gaping Blank Space on its roster, so you’re stuck with me. And when one is writing about the Prince of Wales attending a Taylor Swift concert, let’s be frank, there are only so many words you can write before you need to start padding things out.

“There’s Prince William in the crowd. He has his kids with him. He took a selfie with Swift afterwards. Ummm, he danced a bit?”

That’s just 115 words so far, by the way, which I know All Too Well is insufficient for the task of driving up our engagement on this story and hopefully, in the process, saving a job or two in this, our thriving media industry.

So you see how this is gonna go. And Don’t Blame Me for what comes next.

Whoooooole lot of wealth in this photo. A whole lot.

Taylor Swift, perhaps the most popular pop singer of all time, was born in the American state Pennsylvania in 1989. A solitary year older than me! There she is, strutting around Wembley, performing for the future king of England, another future king of England, and a girl who by virtue of being slightly younger than her brother will never be queen of England.

Prince William dances to Shake It Off at Taylor Swift concert

This might sound like a humbling fact for your author to digest. Remember though, this is Wembley. These days most of the mega-rich people who ply their trade on its hallowed turf are actually younger than me. The ego has long been hardened against such trauma.

William, being The Man and therefore rather bald, is often overshadowed these days by his children. Prince George and Princess Charlotte both looked smart enough for the occasion as they absorbed Swift’s performance, but this time, this time, their father was quite obviously the one fulfilling his Wildest Dreams.

The evidence for this? His dancing to the song Shake It Off.

I mean, look what Swift made him do. Look what she made him do. Just look what she made him do. Just look what she made him do.

You can almost see him mouthing the lyrics.

“The haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.

“And the peasants gonna make, make, make, make, make (little Union Jack flags and wave them at me).

“I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake. Shake it off! Shake it off!”

(“It” being the massive torment that comes with celebrity, vast riches and other privileges.)

The pithy lines are getting even weaker, I know. What are we at? About 500 words. Goodness, a few hundred still to go yet.

Monarchists, please direct your outraged feedback to our inbox news@news.com.au so it can then be forwarded on to HR, and termination proceedings may begin.

So, Taylor and William. Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince. Wills has broken his share of hearts, right? More so back when he had hair, I’d imagine, but still.

You know who wasn’t at Wembley on Friday night? Who didn’t have enough respect to show her face? Who couldn’t handle not being the headline act? Yes that’s right. FERGIE. But also Meghan Markle. The Bad Blood between William and the Sussexes clearly remains. He’s a London Boy. They said So Long, London. And now they got bad blood, hey.

There are a couple of truly lovely photos showing William, the kids, Swift and her boyfriend Travis Kelce together, for which I can muster no snark. Here’s one below.

Kelce, of course, is a player for the Kansas City Chiefs, the most recent Great American Dynasty in the NFL.

We shall end our exercise in padding out what was, really, a very simple yarn, with an ode to the British monarchy.

So it’s going to be forever

Or it’s going to go down in flames

You can tell me when it’s over

If the highs were worth the pain

Got a long list of ex-subjects

They’ll tell you I’m insane

But I’ve got great dance moves baby

And I’ve got a claim (to the throne of Great Britain)

Forgive me.
