Meghan Markle is opening her pocketbook and diving headfirst into the menopause market.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, has reportedly made an angel investment in a women’s health start-up company, Midi Health, that’s favoured among the Hollywood elite.
The Suits star in March joined an impressive roster of female investors in the healthcare start-up, including comedian Amy Schumer, White Lotus star Connie Britton and fashion designer Tory Burch, TechCrunch reports.
Other notable financial backers in the A$101 million investment effort include ex-Meta Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg, soccer star Brandi Chastain, and former Vice President Kamala Harris’ niece, Maya Harris.
Meghan’s involvement is described as an “angel investor” — a high net-worth individual who pumps cash into a business in exchange for equity.
The start-up provides a virtual platform to women aged 35 and over who are experiencing menopause-related symptoms.
The company is notably comprised of 40 per cent people of colour.
Speaking to Fortune Magazine earlier this week, the former actor — who is said to be building a business portfolio — urged women to speak up in conversations about finance.
“Women need to see that they can build,” she told the outlet. “Women don’t need to be afraid to talk about finance. And I think the more financial literacy we have, the stronger we’re going to be.”
In September 2024, the company announced that 80 high-profile investors had pumped between A$16,000 to A$801,000+ into the business during its investment round.
Midi Health announced that a “high-powered group of women leaders and icons spanning entertainment, professional sports, media, beauty and fashion, health and wellness, technology and business” have invested in the business.
According to its website, an initial virtual appointment boasts a price tag of A$400 for “self-paying” patients, while follow-up appointments cost visitors A$1240 a pop.
Meghan’s rumoured investment adds to her ever-growing business portfolio — which boasts more than 10 investment efforts between her and husband Prince Harry.
The duo have reportedly pumped large sums of money into several US start-ups since quitting royal life and moving across the pond in 2020.
‘ACCESSIBLE’ RANGE WON’T BE IMPACTED BY TARIFFS PAIN
Meghan Markle doesn’t believe tariffs will take a toll on her business.
The Duchess of Sussex doesn’t “anticipate” being “directly” affected by President Trump’s recent tariffs on dozens of countries because her brand makes all As Ever products in the United States “at the moment.”
However, the Suits actor admitted to Fortune that she is “look(ing) at the larger context of how this is going to affect the consumer day to day.”
The 43-year-old gushed about how “grateful” she is to be selling “accessible” items “that look more prestige but are more accessible and affordable.”
She predicted, “I think during any time of recession, people still want to find creature comforts, items that can bring them joy.
“At its conception, I had thought about the interest that people seem to have in my fashion, for example, what I would wear,” Meghan continued.
“I think there’s a parallel here, always the ‘high-low.’ I always loved things that present beautifully but didn’t break the bank.”
MEGHAN’S CHILDHOOD PHOTOS REVEALED
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has shared some cute never-before-seen photos of herself as a Girl Scout while promoting her new “Confessions of a Female Founder” podcast.
The show, which has now entered the Apple podcast charts, comes in at number six in both the US and Canada, 11th in the UK, 22nd in Ireland and 57th in Australia.
The first image shows the former working royal, now 43, holding a box of biscuits while wearing a brown uniform, while the rest show her selling them alongside her friends.
“Being an entrepreneur can start young,” she wrote.
“By the way, all these years later and I’m still selling cookies!”
Meghan also opened up about her “scary” experience with post-partum pre-eclampsia.
The Suits actor made the candid health revelation during a conversation with her friend and Bumble dating app founder Whitney Wolfe Herd in the first episode.
During the first 50-minute episode, released Tuesday, Markle detailed the health struggle she endured during her pregnancy.
The Suits alum, who shares son Prince Archie and daughter Princess Lilibet with husband Prince Harry, said dealing with the health condition was “so scary” while having to navigate public responsibilities.
“We both had very similar experiences though we didn’t know each other at the time with post-partum, and we both had pre-eclampsia. Post-partum pre-eclampsia,” Markle revealed.
“It’s so rare and so scary.”
The duo, who have been friends for years, discussed the serious condition that’s responsible for over 70,000 maternal deaths and 500,000 foetal deaths around the world each year.
“And you’re still trying to juggle all of these things, and the world doesn’t know what’s happening quietly,” the former actor said. “And in the quiet, you’re still trying to show up for people mostly for your children but those things are huge medical scares.”
“I mean life or death, truly,” the dating app founder chimed in.
Wolfe Herd also talked about the moment the Sussexes introduced baby Archie to the world in a photocall at Windsor Castle in May 2019 — just two days after his birth.
“I’ll never forget the image of you after you delivered Archie, and the whole world was waiting for his debut,” Wolfe Heard said.
“I was either just becoming or about to become a new mum, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, how is this woman doing this? How is this woman putting on heels and going and debuting a child in this beautiful outfit in front of the entire world?’ I could barely face a doorbell delivery for take out food in a robe,” she added.
Elsewhere in the episode, the former working royal opened up about balancing her business — her newly-released lifestyle brand, As Ever — while being a present mum to her two kids.
Markle revealed that Lili, 3, still enjoys frequent naps and only goes to preschool for half days.
“If she wakes up and wants to find me, she knows where to find me, even if my door is closed to the office,” she said. “She’ll be sitting there on my lap during one of these meetings with a grid of all the executives … I wouldn’t have it any other way. I don’t want to miss those moments. I don’t want to miss pick-up if I don’t have to. I don’t want to miss drop-off.”
“What I do love the most about having young kids in this chapter while I’m building is the perspective that it brings,” Markle added. “Because you’re building something while your child is going through potty training.”
Wolfe Herd chimed in, “Technology is a beautiful tool for parents because you can dial in and be present and do a great job on the call while you sit in the carpool line outside school. Like, why do I need to be at a desk? I have the same mental opinion in a carpool line.”
Markle celebrated the launch of her new podcast by sharing a series of throwback snaps on social media of her selling cookies as a Girl Scout.
“Being an entrepreneur can start young. (By the way, all these years later and I’m still selling cookies!),” she wrote on Instagram. “Tune in for the premiere episode of ‘Confessions of a Female Founder’ featuring my dear friend, @whitney, now streaming wherever you get your podcasts! @lemonadamedia.”
The duchess unveiled her rebranded podcast to the world last month after inking a deal with Lemonada Media in Feb 2024.
The new deal took place after Spotify decided not to renew the steep $20 million contract for a second season of her now-defunct podcast, “Archetypes.”
The new podcast will run for eight episodes and will focus on Markle and her guests’ journeys as an entrepreneur.
Lemonada will be distributing her previous Spotify podcast series to all platforms.
