Nicole Kidman has been a surprise snub for the upcoming Screen Actors Guild Awards, missing out in the Best Actress category when nominations were announced today.
Despite earning widespread acclaim for her role in erotic thriller Babygirl, which saw her receive a Golden Globe nomination and named Best Actress by the National Board of Review this week, the Australian star didn’t make the cut for ‘Female actor in a leading role’ at this year’s 31st annual SAG Awards, which are set to take place at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium February 23.
Demi Moore found herself on the list for The Substance, for which she sensationally won a Golden Globe on Sunday, alongside Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl), Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofia Gascon (Emilia Perez) and Mikey Madison (Anora).
While the omission certainly doesn’t rule Kidman out in the Oscars race, it represents a minor hurdle, with the SAGs considered the most accurate barometer for Academy Award nominations, which will be announced January 19. Another notable oversight in the category was Angelina Jolie for Maria.
Fellow Australian Cate Blanchett was one of the only homegrown nominees, up for Lead actress in a TV series or limited series for Disclaimer, with Naomi Watts and Guy Pearce both missing out in their respective categories.
Musical feature Wicked leads the charge with five nods, including for its stars Erivo, Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey.
TV series Shōgun came out ahead in the TV categories, also landing five.
While nominations were poised to be unveiled at a formal event in Los Angeles Wednesday, SAG instead issued a press release due to the. ongoing wildfires in the region.
