A raucous night of delightfully camp fun, A Night at the Symph-honey will leave you buzzing with joy.

“This feels like the antithesis to the pandemic,” uttered my date for the evening as Hans’ dazzling symphony extravaganza came to a close.

It’s a remark that encapsulates the giddy sense of escapism that Hans provides in glitter-stuffed fistfuls via A Night at the Symph-Honey.

The very definition of “extra”, this show pulls out all the stops with an 18-piece orchestra and a troupe of dancers seemingly plucked from the cast of Magic Mike.

The dramatic score and spectacularly executed choreography collides with Vegas-esque gaudy screen graphics, dry ice and a wardrobe befitting of Hans’ idol Liberace (on a budget) for highbrow-meets-kitsch perfection.

And I haven’t even started on the set list.

From Kylie, to Madonna, Liza, Alanis Morissette and beyond, Hans’ repertoire is a certified mood-lifter, leaving even the most unassuming of audience members gleefully bopping in their seats.

From the moment he opens the show perched atop one of Thebarton Theatre’s classic Juliet balconies, Hans commands the spotlight – and that’s not only thanks to his costumes which are a sparkling assault on the eyeballs of the best possible kind.

As he plonks away at the piano with a Cheshire cat grin draped in every inch of purple sequined fabric in the land, struts across the stage armed with devilishly cheeky one-liners and interacts effortlessly with the crowd, it’s clear Hans has honed his craft to perfection.

With a few opening night tech kinks ironed out, Hans’ Night at the Symph-honey promises to plunge its audience into a fantasy fever dream that elicits pure joy.

Don’t miss out.
