The Kingfisher at Gluttony
Until March 20
The past is another country. They do things differently there. Grant Busé is taking an heroic stand against nostalgia and the sentimental hankering for the past that has infected our lives. He’s a very personable, friendly bloke, with great hair, and a fund of stories. Like so many Australian performers in the UK, the pandemic sent him home to live with mum and dad. That’s when your past catches up with you. The endless repeats on television, the revival of Sex in the City, and was that a tamagotchi reference?
He picks on Leonard Cohen’s most covered song, you know the one, and makes it the core of a very deft routine. Fortunately, despite its popularity, it’s indestructible.
The Kingfisher is an intimate venue and should be filled every night with people wanting an affectionate wind-down to a long day.
One patron leaving mentioned “Weird Al” Jankovic, not a bad reference at all, and not just for the hair.
