Names revealed for new B-12 schools at Aldinga and Angle Vale, and new high school at Whyalla

SA’s three new public schools have all been given names, but the word ‘school’ isn’t in any of them.

South Australia’s three new public schools will open as “colleges” in 2022, in line with the trend of public school rebrandings such as Plympton International College and Playford International College.

After public consultation for each new site, the southern Adelaide School will be Aldinga Payinthi B-12 College. Pronounced Bay-in-di, it is Kaurna for “to seek, look for, examine, be thinking”.

The northern suburbs school at Angle Vale, on Riverbanks Road, will be Riverbanks College B-12.

Their initial intakes will be Reception to Year 2, and years 7 and 8, with limited numbers allowed in years 3-6. Each will start with about 600 students, stretching up to Year 12 and 1675 capacities by 2026.

Whyalla’s new high school will be Whyalla Secondary College.

More than 1550 people took part in public consultation on naming options for the three schools.

“The overwhelming amount of feedback received from the local school communities is a sign that they are eager to be connected with these new schools,” Education Minister John Gardner said.

“It is fantastic that we can bring the community along on this journey and create a greater sense of ownership between the schools and their communities when they open from Term 1, 2022.

“These schools can now consider how the names will influence their visual branding and uniform as the next significant step in building their individual identities.”

The enrolment process will begin in the first half of next year. Enrolment offers will be made in August.

Meantime, Glossop High School, which will consolidate on to its Berri campus from January, will be rebranded Berri Regional Secondary College.
