A South Australian microbrewery has realised a very big dream, opening a new venue that will boost production six-fold and double employment.
Big Shed Brewing in Royal Park has upsized from a 200sq m shed to a “cavernous” 1705sq m, with four 3500-litre vessels.
It will increase production from 250,000 litres per year to more than 1.5 million. This will eventually increase to four million.
Owners and brewers Jason Harris and Craig Basford, who started Big Shed in 2013, have also employed around 14 new staff members and anticipate a team of 39 by 2021.
“It’s pretty surreal; I’m surrounded by a cavernous space for the first time,” Mr Harris said.
“We’ve got tanks four times the size. It feels like the business can breathe finally.
“Since January we’ve had people building and preparing the site. The canning line goes in tomorrow, by the end of the week we’ll have everything in.”
The 4000sq m site includes a beer garden the size of Big Shed’s former building, and is licensed for 250 people. A new kitchen will serve lunch and dinner daily.
The $2.5 million project came to fruition with help from a $50,000 government grant and $1 million low-interest loan.
Big Shed is at 1154 Old Port Rd, Royal Park.
