Supermodel Adut Akech was counting her blessings on a whirlwind trip home to Australia before strutting the runways at New York and Milan fashion weeks.

Akech – who walked for luxury labels Fendi and Max Mara in Italy – posed in the new seasonVogue Australia x Bassike T-shirt to mark this year’s Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night In.

“I feel very lucky to have been able to return home to Australia to visit my family,” Akech said.

“It was such a quick trip,” she added, of the recent visit.

“I love being able to support Australian designers and brands especially at the moment when the fashion community needs our help to recover from the global pandemic.”

Some of Australia’s most fashionable faces are fronting a new Vogue campaign signalling the return of retail – and the impeding post-lockdown party season.

Akech joins Dynasty star Maddison Brown and rising Bondi-based Indigenous model Billie-Jean Hamlet as friends of this year’s Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night In, on from October 15-24.

Speaking from New York, Brown also managed to return home to Sydney recently in between shooting Netflix series, Dynasty.

“Once I wrapped shooting season four, I knew I had to get home,” Brown said.

“My hiatus from work was going to be the only opportunity to do it, so I bit the bullet.”

Finally reuniting with her family after more than a year apart was an emotional experience.

“Not knowing when I was going to see them again has been one of the most traumatic things to come out of all of this for me, personally,” Brown said.

“I know a lot of other people … have been feeling the same way. So I feel very, verylucky that I was able to make it work.”

As the end of Covid lockdown approaches, Vogue Australia editor-in-chief Edwina McCann said Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night In aimed to “encourage spending and reinvigorate the retail and fashion industry”.

“In 2021, faced with new Covid-enforced restrictions, we will return to an online format designed to inject much-needed optimism and provide significant economic benefit,” McCann said.

The event was originally launched by US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour in 2009, in response to the global financial crisis.

Vogue Australia and American Express are hosting the online shopping, fashion and beauty event to support Australian retail, with a full list of participating brands and offers available at www.vogue.com.au.

A virtual Vogue American Express Shoppable Runway will be held on October 15.

As part of Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night In, Vogue and Bassike have unveiled their annual limited edition organic cotton T-shirt, available via bassike.com.
