Summer show at Heathcote draws contenders from afar
The show was such a hit that the North Central Australian Pony Stud Book Group hopes to make it a regular feature in the pony calendar.
THE North Central Australian Pony Stud Book Group is one of the state’s most active and its Summer Show at the Heathcote showgrounds attracted members from as far as Albury and Merbein, with an entry of 20 in junior handler classes and 16 in leading rein.
“At this special Summer Show we included rings for several different groups and the APSB North Central Promotional Group hope that this may become a feature in the pony calendar,” said organiser Jeanette Mamouney.
With 40 garlands, inscribed rugs and trophies on offer, there were a lot of happy winners.
Nicole Touzel had a worthwhile trip from Katamatite, showing the supreme led senior Australian Pony, Storm Haven Ali Baba for the owner, Jacquline Bourke and riding Jo Beck’s champion ridden Small Hunter Pony, Cadella Park Over The Moon.
Suburban Lodge Show and Training Stables main man Stewie Robinson was another busy and successful exhibitor.
He showed the grand champion junior led APSB Pony and supreme yearling, Pant-y-ffyon Neon for owners Faye and Melissa McCauley and Denise Ahsam, and the supreme Australian junior, Koora Lyn Charming, owned by long time and extremely popular exhibitor, Margie White. Mitch Fox made a flying visit from Balmattum, showing Uhavta Top That for Maryjane Mitton and Helen Burns pony, winning several sashes before heading back to his busy farrier’s job.
Supreme champion junior Shetland 8.2 -10.2hhds was D and N Oldaker’s Cataraqui Pink Panther. The supreme Welsh senior and champion open senior pony was the super cute Welsh Section A Palomino, Dantra Park Chakra shown by Tracey Andrew.
Stacey Rusic is a remarkable young woman who specialises in the art of side saddle riding and elegantly showed the champion Side Saddle horse Troika Widgie Bar.
She says she was born in the wrong era. “I just love the elegance of it all. I’ve met some really incredible people of the discipline and it’s opened up some amazing opportunities for me in the equestrian world,” Stacey said.
Grand champion senior led APSB pony was the pinto Shetland mare Lentara Azalea shown by Lee Purchase.
