Breed show returns to Werribee Park
Clydesdales, Shetlands and Riding Ponies wow the crowds as multiple breeds are put through their paces at Werribee Park.
THERE’S nothing a horse lover likes more than to see a green arena filled with horses of many breeds going through their paces.
At Werribee Park they watched everything from Clydesdales, where the Morphy family’s beautiful mare, Aarunga Paris was supreme exhibit, to the Shetlands where Adele Garraway’s upstanding stallion Lentara Tremonti stood as supreme over a very strong lineup.
Arabian mare Jalilah FF, owned by Sam and Brett Thomas, had many admirers when she won the supreme Arabian led purebred halter award. The Australian Pony Stud book provides a section for rare breeds and there was a lot of interest in the flamboyant Gypsy Cobs where Marindy Take A Piece Of My Heart was supreme champ for Lee Scown of Riverdance Gypsy Cobs.
Ruth Feltoe has been a long-time supporter of the versatile New Forest ponies and her supreme champion pony Habafield Debonair is classic in type.
The distinctive Fjords always attract attention and Emma Goodwin took the supreme champion sash with Blackwood Ridge Halvor, and in the Highland Ponies, Benjamin Long’s Currie Park Butterscotch won best of breed.
The Connemara breed has proved very popular as performance ponies and Diann Carrol’s Clifden Hazy Dream was supreme exhibit from a nice line up.
Star of the Welsh ring was Taylah Lee’s champion Section C Stallion Cataraqui Hasufel, AKA Harry. The Riding Ponies are always crowd attracting and the ringside seats are always well filled. Uhavta Nice ‘N’ Naughty was the Champion Led Senior Riding Pony shown by Maryjane Mitton and Helen Burn and the champion Junior Show Pony was Wyoming Park Royal Secret shown by Nancy and Sally Miller.
Melissa Greives’s Akora Endless Imagination was shown by Paul Morath to win Champion Junior RPSBS Show hack-Show Hunter and the senior in that section was Cheraton Mona Lisa owned by Rosemary, Caroline and Stephen Parker.
Supreme ridden Riding Pony award went to Robbanie Truly Fair ridden by Daniel McNamara, owned by Emma Richardson.
