Showjumpers have a spring in their step at Gratton
Showjumpers in Queensland sprang back into action at a championship event in Gratton.
WHILE Victorian riders remain in a state of gloom and lockdown unable to compete at all, some states have emerged from their enforced hiatus with a new spring in their step.
Queensland showjumpers have competitions back in full swing, albeit with some new rules and protocols in place.
The Prydes Easifeed Spring Into Jumping Championships were held last weekend at Gatton and proved a great success. Almost all classes were full within half an hour of entries opening, showing just how keen riders are to be back competing.
Professional rider Olivia Hamood rode her imported gelding Knock Out 111 to win a hard-fought Prydes Easifeed 1.40m Grand Prix.
Hamood jumped a super fast double clear round to narrowly edge Sam Overton and Oaks Cassanova into second place. Hamood also took third place riding Alan 111 Z and seventh place riding Jane Fonda DVD.
Hamood then hopped aboard Sundance GHP to win the LangfieldLodge 1.20m jump off class from Gemma Creighton and Dada Des Brimbelles.
Young rider Maleah Lang-McMahon proved once again just how good she is when she rode Finch Farm Carlsberg to win a very strong Hino 1.25m jump off class.
Lang-McMahon kept a cool head to jump a super fast jump off and take the class from Olivia Hamood and Sundance GHP.
Meanwhile dad, Peter McMahon, was busy winning the Kennedy Homes 1.35m jump off class riding KS Sovereigns Cadel from Sam Overton and Oaks Cassanova.
Showjumping Queensland chairwoman Becky Jenkins was very busy organising the show but still found time to win the open 1.05m riding DP Vahana from Mandy Gillan and Finch Farm Nikko.
Gemma Creighton rode her Ricochet CG to win the Kolora Lodge 1.10m class from Kerry Langbecker and Angelica.
The Ticknell family was very busy in the winner’s circle. Courtney rode CC’s Casper to win the 1.20m speed class and then rode Screwdriver to take out the 1.30m speed class. Brother Cody won the 1.05m speed class riding Alices Wonderland before taking out first and second in the 1.10m speed class.
