Gol Gol coach Adam Thomson has gone on a goal kicking spree in the Millewa league with 33 majors against Meringur on Saturday.
His massive bag of goals is the biggest by a player this season and follows Bambill’s Brad Congress also kicking 24 goals against Meringur last round.
Gol Gol kicked 58.28 (376) to hammer Meringur 4.1 (25) with Thomson jumping from 56 to 89 goals for the season.
Congress kicked three goals against Werrimull to move to 90 for the season alongside Marong’s Brandyn Grenfell, who booted nine against Mitiamo in the Loddon Valley league.
According to countryfootyscores.com.au, Thomson’s 33 goals is the sixth biggest bag of goals ever kicked in country football with the most being 43 by Ron Edwards for Lake Tyers against Nowa Nowa in the East Gippsland league in 1950.
HUME
Osborne overcame the loss of coach Joel Mackie to a hamstring injury in the first quarter to beat its biggest threat to the Hume league premiership, Holbrook.
After leading by only a point at halftime, Osborne kicked six goals to three in the second half to win by 21 points and remain undefeated with Holbrook still a game clear in second spot ahead of Howlong.
Ruckman Duncan McMaster dominated for Osborne and Joe Clancy blanketed Holbrook’s most dangerous forward, Luke Gestier.
Osborne is on a 28-match winning streak under Mackie, who took over as coach at the end of 2019 when Matt Rava led the club to another flag.
In a day of upsets in the Hume league, Murray Magpies rolled Culcairn, Rand Walbundrie Walla beat Jindera and Billabong Crows beat Brock-Burrum.
GIPPSLAND
Morwell has moved to within striking distance of the Gippsland league top five with a 16-point win against old foe Traralgon.
In a hotly contested race for finals spots, Morwell was never headed despite Traralgon closing to within 10 points in the last quarter.
Teenager Tristen Waack dominated in the ruck for the third week in a row for Morwell with co-coach Boyd Bailey, Max Linton and Brandon McDonald also among the best players.
Morwell sits in sixth spot, level on five wins with Traralgon, Maffra and Sale, which occupy third, fourth and fifth places on the ladder.
Morwell plays eighth placed Warragul next round on the same day Sale and Maffra meet.
Knight, a former VFA champion, has only had one full season at the helm due to Covid and will hand over to Boyd, a member of Morwell’s back-to-back flags in 2013-14, next year.
Traralgon forward Brett Eddy was held to just one goal in his return from a hamstring injury.
