Denis Knight and Boyd Bailey to co-coach Morwell in 2022

Denis Knight will finish up as Morwell coach at end of this season. Find out who will replace him in 2023.

Morwell will enter the Gippsland Football League season with co-coaches in a last minute succession plan put in place to deal with the departure of its coach of the past three years, Denis Knight at the end of the season.

Knight will share the coaching duties this season with Boyd Bailey, who has been locked in as coach for 2023 and 2024.

The former VFA champion player has only had one full season as coach of Morwell with Covid heavily impacting the last two years.

Knight informed club officials in recent times this year would be his last as coach.

He tasted premiership success with metropolitan clubs Noble Park and Norwood before embarking on his first country coaching job at Morwell.

Boyd played in back-to-back Morwell flags in 2013-14 followed by stints in the VFL and NEAFL before returning to the Tigers in 2019.

“The club feels very fortunate to have the luxury of our next senior coach being mentored for the role by one of the most experienced and successful coaches in regional footy,” Morwell president Paul Spagnolo said.

Morwell plays Bairnsdale in its season opener on April 2.
