Tasmanian Netball League live stream: Kingston Blues take on Karana in seventh annual Stay ChatTY Shield clash
Kingston Blues continue their mastery over teams below them on the TNL table as goalshooters Jess Earney and Ashlea Turner combine to inspire a big win over Karana. Relive all the action.
That’s four wins in five games for Tasmanian Netball League finals aspirant Kingston Blues now after they beat lowly Karana for the second time in three rounds on Sunday.
The fourth-place Blues are now four points clear of fifth-place Devon and in prime position to at least match last year’s finals appearance.
All five of their wins thus far have come against teams below them in the table. Tellingly, their four encounters with Cripps Waratah, Hawks and Cavaliers (twice) have all ended in defeats.
The 61-33 success over Karana, which followed a 73-30 win over the same team earlier in May, was achieved on the back of some excellent shooting from Jess Earney and Ashlea Turner.
Kingston v Karana 19U - Tasmanian Netball League Round 9
For the second time in three rounds, Karana have beaten Kingston Blues in a tight U19 Tasmanian Netball League clash.
Although this one wasn’t as close as the 40-39 result in round seven, it was still very much in the balance at halftime and needed a powerful third quarter from Karana to secure the 47-34 success.
Erin Mullarvey scored 20 for the victors and now scored over 100 goals for the season.

With the organisation making yearly visits to all TNL clubs, Kingston captain Nicole Hunt said the clash was always one they circled on the fixture list.
“It’s pretty exciting, we love this round,” Hunt said.
“For us, it’s all about normalising conversations about mental health, which is really important.
“We foster a really strong culture across the Kingston Blues and it’s important for us that we are really supportive of each other. We play netball because we love it and we want to bring our best to the round.
“We spend a lot of time in preseason talking about how we support each other and what it means to have a strong culture on and off the court.”
Flames captain Asha Ratcliffe agreed that the fixture was an important one and that as skipper, she was focused on connecting the team and ensuring an open line of communication.
“I think it’s a real highlight of our fixture and it’s such an important cause that we really enjoy getting behind,” she said.
“We had SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY come in and do a session with Karana late last year and it was just really beneficial for all the girls. It’s just such a good reminder that it’s really okay to not be okay and to seek support from those around you.
“As a captain, I pride myself on being really approachable and trying to connect with all the girls in the team, and our under-19 side as well, just to create that really cohesive and supportive culture because I think it’s going to help us on and off the court.”
While Karana are yet to take home the annual shield, this year’s Shield winner will be determined across both under 19s and Opens grades with the club scoring the most goals across both matches the winner.
