Airport has capped off a perfect week on the footy fields at Barratt Reserve to claim the Sapsasa Girls Footy Division 1 crown.

Airport finished the tournament as the only undefeated side, closing out a perfect week with a tough 3.8 (26) to 1.4 (10) win over rivals Mid-South East on Wednesday.

The clash between the two top Div 1 sides headlined a big final day of action on the showcase field.

Salisbury East capped off their week with a big win over Central Eyre Peninsula, scoring nine-unanswered goals on their way to a 61-point win.

The big win helped Slaisbury finish the tournament strong, and were in the lead of the competition with a couple of other results waiting to land.

Riverland and Hills couldn’t be split at the top of the Division 3 standings, with the sides playing out a gripping 7-7 draw on the final day to split the tournament crown.

In other field one action on the final daym Southern Fleurieu finished off their tournament with a dominant 3.2 (20) to 1.1 (7) win over rivals Southern Yorke Peninsula, while Lower South East snuck eight goals past rivals Torrens River ina high-scoring second divison clash.

DAY 2 WRAP

Upper South East have continued their brilliant start to the Sapsasa Girls Footy Carnival, sitting unbeaten on top of the Division 1 ladder after two days.

The Upper South East girls made the most of their opportunity on the show field, with a three-goal win over regional rivals Barossa and Light.

The side would back that result up later in the day with a 78-point demolition of Southern Yorke Peninsula on one of the backfields to cement theri standing at the top of the division.

Fellow unbeaten outfit Airport made their presence felt in the top division with a cracking 35-7 win over the Port girls.

Airport have been one of the teams of the tournament, having racked up two early shut-outs and more than 350 points across six games.

Division 2 front-runners Tea Tree Gully kept up their momentum at Barratt Reserve with two strong wins across the day on the main field.

Tea Tree Gully scored a 3.6 (24) to 0.1 (1) win over Torrens River in the morning before backing up that result with a 4.0 (24) to 2.4 (16) thriller against Para Districts.

Northern Yorke Peninsula firmed for a run at the Division 3 title with a strong 23-point win over Kangaroo Island.

DAY ONE WRAP

Upper South East has made a dominant start to the Sapsasa Girls Footy Carnival, picking up to key wins in the top division.

Upper South East closed out the opening day’s action on the main field with a brutal display of goal kicking in a 58-point win over Southern Fleurieu.

The Upper South East girls were brilliant in the second half kicking six goals and three behinds on their way to a dominant 10.4 (64) to 1.2 (8) win.

It capped off a perfect day on the fields at Barratt Reserve after Upper South East had earlier survived a strong challenge from the kids from Mid South East, running out 4.3 (27) to 2.2 (14) winners.

It was a mixed start to the carnival for Mid South East, who had earlier beaten Southern Fleurieu by more than five goals.

in other opening day action on field one, Southern Valley made a strong start to their Division 4 campaign with a 67-point win over Adelaide North East, while the Western girls kicked off the Division 3 action with a 6.1 (37) to 2.4 (16) win over Onkaparinga North.

Gawler will be determined to bounce back as the tournament progresses into day two after going down to both Lower Eyre Peninsula and City South on a tough opening day.

The coverage of the tournament continues on Tuesday with 10 matches from the main field at Barratt Reserve.

The top young female footballers SA has to offer will clash for silverware in next week’s School Sport SA Sapsasa girls football carnival.

Teams representing the state’s top country and suburban footballing regions will go head-to-head over three days of competition from Monday, October 21 to Wednesday, October 23.

Gawler and City South will clash to kick-off the day one action from 8.30am on Monday, with East Adelaide vs Lower South East at 12.30pm also an anticipated matchup.

Murraylands vs Lower South East will then begin day two at 8am and will be followed by Barossa and Light vs Onkaparinga South at 8.40am.

Day three will be packed with entertaining match-ups, with Southern vs East Adelaide at 10.50am and Tea Tree Gully vs Gawler at 12.50pm set to excite.

Games will run for 40 minutes with two 20-minute halves and winners will be presented at the conclusion of day three action.
