2025 Herald Sun Shield live stream: Division 1 boys elimination round double header

A Geelong private school will make its debut in the Herald Sun Shield, as they aim to book a spot in the competitions semi-finals. Watch the elimination finals double header LIVE on Tuesday.

A Geelong private school knows it will be punching above its weight class on Tuesday after being promoted into the top division of the state’s longest-running football competition.

First played in 1977, the Herald Sun Shield showcases some of the best young football teams and players, with eight divisions this year across four boys and girls tournaments each.

Saint Ignatius College will fly the flag for the Geelong region in this week’s elimination rounds, with all of the action exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV on Tuesday.

The Geelong nursery will face its toughest test yet after taking out the Geelong Independent Secondary Sport Association (GISSA) competition earlier this year, when it clashes with Ballarat Grammar as part of an elimination round double header.

Saint Ignatius’ open side is bolstered by a number of talented youngsters, either playing for the Geelong Falcons or with local senior football sides.

They include Barwon Heads and Geelong Falcons teammates Angus Ford and Lachie Blacket, and Rilley Acquilina, who played for Vic Country at the national under-18 championships.

The college’s head of sport, Andrew Philp, said the shield provided a pathway to higher level talent programs, with the school winning division two in 2024 over Newhaven College by 58 points in the grand final.

“For some it is even the first step towards a career in the AFL or the AFLW,” Philp said.

“I think because of where we are and what we achieve, you could say that we certainly punch above our weight.”

Representing the GISSA, their first round clash will be an elimination match against Grammar with the winner progressing to the semi-final.

“The coaching staff know that this will be their toughest assignment yet,” Philp said.

“However, the group has been training since February. They are very connected and all play very good football with their local clubs.

“We have players within the Geelong Falcons Talent League programs and many play senior football for GFNL and Bellarine teams.

“No matter what happens on Tuesday against Ballarat, players and coaches should be super proud of their discipline, commitment and success this year.

“One of the exciting things for players when they progress through to the Herald Sun Shield is they get to play on pretty good AFL venues with all the bells and whistles students enjoy.”

Esteemed Ballarat private school St Patrick’s College will take on Salesian College, Sunbury in the Intermediate Boys Division 1 elimination final which will open up the action on Tuesday.

The winners of the elimination finals will progress to next week’s semi-finals to take on the number one seeded finalists.
