2025 Langer Trophy live stream: Marsden SHS v Redcliffe SHS, Round 3
Redcliffe State High have cracked the Langer Trophy top three after soaring over the top of rivals Marsden State High. Watch the REPLAYS.
The Redcliffe Eagles semi-final campaign has taken flight, with the boys from the bayside swooping to snare a valuable away win 18-4 against Marsden SHS.
Backed by a high percent handling game, excellent direction and tactical kicking by halfback Grady Payne and an attacking defensive line, Redcliffe worked their way to a second, hard earned win of the season.
The decisive moment came 10 minutes from fulltime when Redcliffe winger Jonathon Alo produced a try saving tackle on runaway Marsden second rower Taylan To’a.

One minute from fulltime, Alo then leapt high to take a bomb and confirm victory for his side.
At the time Redcliffe led 12-4, and a try then would have dragged Marsden back from the brink.
Indeed Marsden’s revamped second half performance helped negate Redcliffe’s relentless first
half play when quick footed football down the middle paved the way toward success the Eagles win.
Trailing 12-nil at halftime, Marsden worked their way back into the match when debut halfback Lennox Pope produced a 10m spurt to score after elite fullback Adaquix Luke had again given Marsden some life with a kick return.
But Marsden rallied at halftime, and Redcliffe were pushed all the way.
Replay: Marsden v Redcliffe (2025 Walters Cup)
Earlier, Redcliffe made the running from the opening whistle, with mobile big men Jairus Suliasi and Kaleb Teu drove forward, while No.13 Aza Toki-Mautairi added speed to the ruck.
The Eagles led 12-nil at halftime - and could have led more if Marsden SHS’s Koby McGarrity had not made a fantastic try saving tackle on flying Redcliffe fullback James Grey.
Teu was also held up over the line, while Marsden fullback Adaquix Luke also made a try saving tackle on Gus Folau. Marsden’s players were really manning the pumps.
Ultimately Redcliffe scored twice to lay a foundation for victory - once when hooker Cohen Cohen Cochran plunged over in the ruck, and on another occasion when Folau’s grubber kick was brilliant dragged in by winger Hollan Poto.
PREVIEW
Marsden SHS will look to get more physical in the ruck as they confront a Redcliffe SHS controlled by former Marsden student Grady Payne.
Coach Krys Freeman said his team needed to be more “physical in the ruck” and reduce silly mistakes which cost his team dearly in the narrow loss to Ipswich State High last round.
The Langer Trophy clash between Marsden and Redcliffe will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV on Tuesday as part of a big double header including the Walters Cup (Year 10) clash between the schools.
Marsden SHS will have to do it without star playmaker and goal kicker, Hayden Watson, who is a part of the Queensland Under-19 Origin squad playing this week on the Sunshine Coast.
In his place Lennox Pope will make his Langer Trophy debut, a huge moment for the specialist halfback.
Pope, who plays under-18s for the strong Burleigh Bears club, will oppose former Marsden SHS and Coombabah SHS student Grady Payne.
Payne’s desire to test himself in the Langer Trophy saw him move schools to Redcliffe Satte High from the far northern Gold Coast community of Coomera - just on the edge of Marsden SHS’s catchment.
Quality halfbacks don’t grow on trees, and Payne has evolved into a first class conductor after learning on the run in his Langer Trophy debut last season, and then playing club league in the 2025 Meninga Cup for the Brisbane Tigers.
The Scott Murray-coached Redcliffe State High side will offer plenty of threat to Marsden through the ruck where the Eagles possess power and mobility.
The likes of Taufa Tualani and Jairus Suliasi were mobile big men, while the middle field speed threat will come courtesy of Nate Berrigan, Amare Wynyard, No.13 Aza Toki-Mautairi and fullback James Grey.
Aside from missing halfback Watson, Marsden SHS will be without one of their best mobile forwards, Queensland representative Mace Andrew, who is out injured.
