A blue-ribbon 3368ha piece of agricultural farmland in Tasmania has hit the market, with offers expected to be north of $70 million.

Westmore, located at Marrawah in northwest Tasmania and owned by the Greenham meat processing family, is a key supplier to Cape Grim branded beef and believed to be one of the largest contiguous holdings of agricultural land in Tasmania.

Greenham Group managing director Peter Greenham said new owners would be able to secure a proven livestock production asset and step straight into the supply chain, with the option to purchase the current herd.

“Since purchasing the property we have invested heavily in the development of Westmore, including the application of compost, organic products such as lime sand and non-synthetic fertilisers, which have significantly boosted the carrying capacity of the property,” he said.

“We intend to reinvest the sale proceeds into our Smithton plant and downstream supply chain which will enable us to continue to improve and develop our world renowned Cape Grim program.”

Westmore receives an annual rainfall of 1072mm, and finished around 6500 cattle each year, including a combination of F1 Wagyus, British bred and dairy beef cattle, as well as a breeding herd of 250 self-replacing cows.

This comes after another significant listing in northwest Tasmania, with Chinese businessman Lu Xianfeng listing Tasmania’s Van Dairy Ltd, with its 9500-hectare Woolnorth operations expected to receive offers north of $150 million.

Presented to market by LAWD, director Danny Thomas said opportunities of the scale of Westmore rarely came to market for potential buyers.

“We expect the property to attract significant interest from landholders or syndicates seeking expansion opportunities in either beef or dairy production, high net worth individuals or domestic and global investors,” he said.

Infrastructure on the property includes fencing and stock handling facilities, an extensive network on laneways, two machinery sheds, four hay sheds, a five-bedroom brick homestead, three cottages and workers’ accommodation.
