Tim and Camilla Palmer sell ‘luxury’ central Victorian rural estate Pepperell Farm

A central Victorian family has sold its premier rural estate, which includes a stunning two-storey Georgian homestead.

House prices set to rise up to five per cent by the end of 2023

A luxury equine rural estate has changed hands in a recently inked deal, as yet another high net worth figure secures a premier piece of country Victoria.

Vendors Tim and Camilla Palmer have sold their 18ha Mount Macedon property, Pepperell Farm, for about $9 million to Bell Asset Management chief investment officer Ned Bell and his wife Alison.

The showpiece of the central Victorian estate is the two-storey Georgian homestead, built in 2002 as a replica of Lady Pepperell House in Maine, New England, itself constructed in 1760.

Inside the home are five bedrooms, four bathrooms, powder room, kitchen with AGA stove and scullery, office, home theatre, four lounge and dining areas, wine cellar, and a billiards or games room.

The Palmers have also curated first-class equine facilities on the property including a 1250m granitic sand exercise track, an 11-stable complex and an Olympic-sized main indoor arena with a Martin Collins wax surface.

There is also a second indoor arena with Soiltex surface and lights used for handling young horses and lunging.

The property was also used during the production of the biopic Better Man, an upcoming movie about UK singer-songwriter Robbie Williams.

Mr Bell has 25 years experience as a global investor, including stints working for Loomis Sayles and Co in 1997 in the US.

Inglis Rural Property’s Sam Triggs and Mount Macedon Realty’s Lisa Fowler handled the sale, but both made no comment on the deal.

The deal comes as several other high net worth individuals have snapped up significant rural property holdings in recent weeks.

Melbourne-based horse breeder and the founder and CEO of Melbourne-based Phoenix Lithium, Nick Wakim has reportedly paid about $30 million for the 1233ha Allanvale estate near Avenel in North East Victoria.

Australia’s largest importer of wool into China, Qingnan Wen of Tianyu Wool, has also purchased the 1664.5ha mixed farm, known as Nerrinyerie, near Harrow in the state’s Wimmera region.

The acquisition of the Edgar family’s property adds to Mr Wen’s existing rural Victorian property portfolio which includes three iconic pastoral homes and 6000 hectares of Western Victorian grazing and wool-growing country that can carry more than 60,000 Merino sheep.
