A BLUE-CHIP cattle aggregation in North East Victoria has sold under the hammer for more than $10 million.

Held in the Adams family since 1902, Rockleigh at Straghorn Flat fetched $10.6 million at auction last week.

The 433ha aggregation was sold as seven separate lots.

The auction result smashed expectations, which were between $6-7 million for the whole aggregation.

Owned by Peter and Leonie Adams, Rockleigh comprises what is believed to be some of the best bullock fattening country in North East Victoria.

The Adams’ bullocks have regularly topped local markets and they have recently been named a top 100 producer by Meat Standards Australia.

Having produced high-quality fat Hereford bullocks for more than 60 years, Peter and Leonie are now retiring from farming.

Rodwells Ruralco agent Dave Colvin said it was an exceptional result.

“The vendors set realistic reserves and each holding was immediately declared on the market for sale with no referrals to the vendors, so the whole auction before a standing-room-only crowd estimated at 250 people was concluded in one hour,” Mr Colvin said.

“Six of the farm lots exceeded 40 hectares and are entitled to residential building permits for lifestyle rural living as this area has been a very attractive location for the district’s professional families. But in the auction outcome all seven lots were bought by district farmer or farm family interests.”
