A PIECE of blue-chip cattle country on the doorstep of Albury-Wodonga has been held in the same family for more than 100 years.

Owned by Peter and Leonie Adams, Rockleigh at Straghorn Flat comprises what is believed to be some of the best bullock fattening country in North East Victoria.

The Adams’ bullocks have regularly topped local markets and they have recently been named a top 100 producer by Meat Standards Australia.

Having produced high-quality fat Hereford bullocks for more than 60 years, Peter and Leonie are now retiring from farming and have already purchased their new home in Wodonga.

Held in the family since 1902, the 433ha aggregation is made up of seven lots, each of which have been conservatively farmed and stocked and received regular super and lime treatments.

The largest lot (111.7ha) is subdivided into five main paddocks and features the three-bedroom homestead as well as multiple hay and machinery sheds. A 35 square metre brick building adjoins the home, and could be used as a granny flat or extra family accommodation.

With exceptional district views, Mahons (42.2ha) would make an ideal lifestyle block. It is about half light native gum forest with the rest pasture.

Bowrans (45ha) has been used as a highly productive fattening paddock.

The lot known as Allans Flat Road (60.8ha) consists of productive mainly alluvial soil loam country on the creek flats, with the higher country traditionally saved for hay production. This lot also has a set of modern covered steel cattle yards.

Adjoining this block is Lindsay Road (62.8ha) which has an area of creek flats with rising country and creek frontage and boasts a number of building sites with scenic views.

Triangle (78.9ha) is subdivided into three paddocks and is used as a fattening block as well as for hay production.

Macklan’s (42.2ha) is a rectangular block, which the Adams regards as one of their best fattening paddocks. It also has exceptional sites for a home on the higher slope.

Selling agent Dave Colvin said Rockleigh was premium farmland.

“With the demand for high quality residential and rural living opportunities that are large enough to also run a good number of cattle, or an equine interest, we anticipate that family and professional buying interest will be forthcoming from the nearby major centres as well as from local and border districts of NSW,” Mr Colvin said.

Rockleigh is 10km southeast of Wodonga and will be auctioned as seven separate titled allotments.
