A tightly held family farming enterprise in the heart of the NSW Riverina near Oaklands, has been listed for sale following more than 75 years of ownership.

The Simpson family are preparing to sell the 1564ha Wangamong Aggregation, comprising three substantial holdings situated 98km northwest of Albury, and 49km north of Mulwala.

Owned by Andrew and Libby Simpson, with origins in the family dating back to 1948, the aggregation comprises 512ha Wangamong, 421ha Wangamong West, and 631ha Wangamong East, offered for sale as a whole or in any combination of the lots.

Andrew said he was born and raised on the Wangamong property, calling it home for most of his life.

“My parents bought the first lot with a war service loan, and our family has been here ever since,” he said.

“It used to be all livestock, but the farms have changed over the years, evolving into more of a mixed farm with the irrigation scheme in 1967 allowing irrigated pastures and summer and winter crops.

“My father passed away in 1976, which was my last year of school. I went off to be a jackaroo for a couple of years, but by 1979 I was back on the farm and have been managing it since I was about 19 or 20 years old.

Water supply at the Wangamong Aggregation is via the West Corurgan P. I. D with three delivery points, 1000W/C delivery entitlements, 330ha of laser levelled border check irrigation, and 70ha of original border check.

“We are pretty proud to look around the farms and see what we have achieved.”

The Wangamong Aggregation was previously farmed in partnership with Andrew’s siblings, but changed shape and size over the years due to family succession planning.

Now the aggregation is mainly used for continuous cropping, with a 2024 program of 545ha canola, 270ha wheat, 325ha barley and 160ha fallowed for corn preparation.

Offers for the aggregation are tipped to be about $12,355 a hectare, or more than $19 million.

The Simpson family are preparing to expand their agricultural interests in the western Riverina in southern NSW.

Elders Real Estate Deniliquin agent Matt Horne is handling the sale.

Meanwhile, a pair of Riverina farming brothers are selling more than 1100 hectares of farmland they have transformed from what was a grass grazing block into a predominantly irrigated cropping enterprise.

Smeatonvale also offers the potential to expand due an additional two 80ha centre pivot irrigators.

Brothers Christopher and Sebastian Liphuyzen, via their company CSL Farming Pty Ltd, are selling the 1125.29ha Smeatonvale property, a spray irrigation powerhouse.

Located at Boree-Morago Rd, the property offers two lateral spray irrigators, each with a substantial 18ML capacity.

The crown jewel is the larger irrigator, 4.5km long and 1km (approximately) wide, guided by GPS technology for operation.

Previously undeveloped grazing blocks, both Christopher and Sebastian have established 520ha under irrigation at Smeatonvale since they acquired the property three years ago.

Smeatonvale property is for sale for about $7 million, via Nutrien Harcourts Deniliquin agents James Sides and Jake Freshwater.
