A PORTION of the historic Western District property Devon Park has sold for the first time in more than 90 years.

The 1237ha slice went under the hammer last week and sold for $14,155,200.

The Weekly Times understands the portion was purchased by Allan Myers, one of the nation’s leading QCs who owns Dunkeld Pastoral Company.

Devon Park was auctioned by Paul Tzamalis from The Auction Company and was marketed by CBRE’s Danny Thomas.

“The property overlooks the stunning Grampians National Park and is the only property of this scale available to market between Geelong and Adelaide,” Mr Thomas said.

“This is the top of the pile when it comes to rural land opportunities”.

The parcel didn’t include the Devon Park homestead but the land on offer was being used for livestock grazing with areas suitable for cropping.

The property has a carrying capacity of 17,750 dry sheep equivalents, an average rainfall of 693mm, quality fencing, a well-designed laneway system and excellent livestock water infrastructure.

Devon Park has been associated with descendants of wealthy pastoralist WJT ‘Big’ Clarke since 1928.

The 1237ha portion was sold by Sarah Reid, a descendant of Mr Clarke, and Ms Reid’s mother, Susie Clarke, will retain the other portion.

In November last year, The Weekly Times reported Mr Myers had snapped up the multimillion-dollar blue-ribbon property Blackwood Station, also at Dunkeld.

The 2420ha property was sold by Chinese owners Rifa Salutary for an undisclosed price.

Hamilton-born and Dunkeld-raised, Mr Myers is a long-term investor in Australian agriculture, buying his first block at Dunkeld in 1977.

Dunkeld Pastoral has since become one of the state’s best known, large-scale red meat producers operating across about 8300ha and producing about 450 tonnes of lamb, 250 tonnes of mutton, 100 tonnes of wool and 100 tonnes of beef annually.
