A Gundagai family has parted with their 2056ha livestock property on the NSW South West Slopes after it was sold under the hammer for a whopping price.

After 120 years of ownership, the Nicholls family has sold Wandeen, at Gundagai NSW, for $28 million through auction on Tuesday.

Wandeen was auctioned at the Auction Works Rooms in Sydney, with a telephone bidder, who has family grazing interests in the district, placing the highest bid.

On the day there were 46 bids, with a strong bidding duel between two parties driving the price to $28 million.

There were multiple parties registered to bid at auction, after about 100 inquiries and 16 inspections were completed during the marketing campaign.

George and Geoff Nicholls sold their Gundagai farm, Wandeen, at auction for $28 million.

Webster Nolan Real Estate NSW property specialists director David Nolan and Elders Gundagai’s Jim Saunderson handled the sale and said the transaction was a big result.

“Wandeen is one of Gundagai’s premier rural holdings and has been held by the same family for 120 years,” Mr Nolan said.

“This sale demonstrates the current demand for first class stand-alone rural holdings.”

Located at Burra Rd, 13km north of the Gundagai township, Wandeen was listed for sale by George and Geoff Nicholls in November with a price tag of $24-$28 million.

During the Nicholls’ family tenure Wandeen was home to their Wandeen Shorthorn Herd while being run as a fattening and breeding property.

The 2056ha property has been conservatively carrying about 400 cows and 5000 Merino ewes and has the ability to grow cash and fodder crops.

Wandeen is fenced into 16 main paddocks with a number of smaller holding paddocks and the property’s cattle and sheep were also available to the successful purchaser.

With the sale of Wandeen, more than $130 million worth of NSW pastoral farmland has changed hands in the past week alone with a premier NSW northern tablelands cattle farm, Kentucky Blue and The Flags offloaded by its local owners for more than $55 million.

Meanwhile in the Riverina the Crichton-Brown family sold their 50,000ha portfolio near Hay and Booligal between multiple buyers for about the $45 million combined asking price.
