A historic Holbrook station has been listed for sale, opening the door for a new chapter in its storied history.

The 1089ha North Billabong station has been listed for sale, with local Meuer Pastoral Company looking to restructure its agricultural portfolio.

Meuer Pastoral bought the property in 2019 from South Australian farmers Rob and Jody Martin, who had previously spent about 20 years farming at North Billabong, bringing their established Poll Dorset stud with them.

The Martins returned to South Australia several years ago after selling the property to Meuer Pastoral.

Since the acquisition, Meuer Pastoral has committed significant investment to the station’s fencing, pasture improvement and soil fertility.

Consequently, the property is suited to a range of agricultural endeavours including wool, prime lamb, cattle and cropping.

A key feature of the station is the five-bedroom, three-bathroom homestead, which dates back to when the property was The Australian Hotel and a Cobb and Co changing station, established during Victoria’s gold rush era.

The North Billabong brick homestead was built by Thomas Lunt circa 1856, but has undergone recent improvements.

The property, which is estimated to carry in excess of 15,000 dry sheep equivalent, is expected to receive offers worth $16,555 a hectare ($6700 an acre).

Elders Real Estate selling agent Nick Myer said the holding was a highly renowned and historically significant property in the district.

“North Billabong has undergone significant development over the term of ownership, with a strategic focus on soil fertility and pasture improvement,” he said.

Meanwhile also in the NSW Riverina, the 1665ha property Clearview at Savernake has hit the market, located in the tightly held region north of the Murray River about 20km from the border towns of Yarrawonga-Mulwala.

Portions of the property, comprising five adjoining landholdings, had been owned by David and Betty Dickins since 1969.

They had farmed at the property for 54 years, followed by their son, Ronald, who took control of the farm in 2006. The property was then passed on to sharefarmers who took the reins alongside Ron in 2010, making the transition to more cropping.

Elders Real Estate Yarrawonga selling agent Xavier Leslie said the property was on the market as part of the sale of Ronald Dickins’ deceased estate.

“The current sharefarmers have done an instrumental job over recent years with their experienced farming techniques being one of the driving forces behind Clearview’s success,” Mr Leslie said.

District land values indicate the property could field offers worth about $9884 a hectare ($4000 an acre).
