Graeme Scott to sell Williamsons Road farms, Glenthompson, for circa $7.5m

A tightly-held farm near Glenthompson is on the market for the first time in more than four decades, with offers tipped to exceed $19,750 per hectare.

For the first time in more than 40 years, a tightly-held Western District holding has hit the market with significant local interest tipped to flood in.

Nutrien Harcourts Ararat are selling Williamsons Road farms lots 1 and 2 at Glenthompson on behalf of Wickliffe district farmer Graeme Scott.

Early feedback from the market suggests current expectations for the value of the land are circa $19,765 per hectare, meaning the farms could fetch more than $7.5m.

Selling agent and Nutrien Harcourts Ararat director Brad Jensen said he expects the 394ha holding to be sold as one.

“There has been an amazing amount of interest from around the area with farmers looking for that bolt on block or two,” he said.

“We have had quite a few inquiries from locals already who understand how productive this land can be.

“Land in this region is very tightly held and doesn’t come onto the market very often.

“Early in the vendor’s career the holding was used for grazing, but more recently it has been used predominantly for cropping.”

Across the Williamsons (239ha) and Ellerys (155ha) blocks, 90 per cent (364ha) is considered arable.

The blocks are also undulating with gently rolling hills and “excellent” drainage.

The expressions of interest campaign closes on April 7.

The notable listing comes after the Merriwa Pastoral Company portfolio listed their Mallee cropping portfolio for sale, a holding which could fetch more than $10m.
