Gippsland farm Glencairn at Loch expected to make more than $37k a hectare

This dairy farm at Loch is expected to make more than $5 million

A DAIRY farm in Gippsland is expected to making more than $37,800 a hectare or $15,300 an acre.

The 140ha property, Glencairn at Loch in south Gippsland, has an asking price of $5.2 million to $5.3 million.

The property, owned by Phillip Ould, will be sold via private sale by Nutiren Harcourts.

It has been sharefarmed by Mr Ould and Paul and Louise Sherar – which have run 280 to 300 cows on the property.

“We have done lots of improvements on the tracks and we have subdivided paddocks and established tree plantations,” Mr Ould said.

“It was blue gum country, so we definitely saw the potential in the farm, and what we have been able to achieve has increased its productivity.

“This is renowned South Gippsland dairy country for a reason.

“We are green most of the year and this year, we have been green right through”.

The country is described as a balance of undulating to rolling hill country and has a northerly aspect.

It comes as a string of farms have sold for record prices on a per hectare or ace basis.

Recently, a dairy farm in North East Victoria sold for more than $37,000 a hectare.

The 132ha property, Pehuen Park at Tallangatta South, sold under the hammer and smashed price expectations by almost $1 million.

It had an asking price of about $4 million when it was listed for sale earlier this year.

The price per hectare is believed to be nearing record territory for this area.
