Deniliquin Freighters’ Russell Tait and Vicki Meyer sell four farms

The majority of a 3600ha NSW Riverina aggregation has been carved up between three local farming families, including two neighbours.

Four farms that formed the majority of a NSW Riverina mixed farming aggregation have been sold to three local producers who have each secured their own slice.

Russell Tait and partner Vicki Meyer, who own and operate one of Australian agribusiness’ leading transport companies Deniliquin Freighters, have sold almost 3000ha of their farmland near Deniliquin in southern NSW.

The pair listed the six-farm 3625ha Gundagurra aggregation for sale earlier this year where it was expected to receive offers worth $25-$30 million or more.

Four parcels of the aggregation, located 14km from Deniliquin, have been sold, while the remaining two segments are on the market.

The adjoining Gollops Run (1262.3ha) and Pretty Polly (841.92ha) have been sold to a neighbouring mixed farming family. It is understood they will use the properties for their dorper breeding program and cash crop production.

Boundary Park (435.85ha) has been purchased by local pig farmers. It is understood the purchasing family will use the parcel to expand their grain production, using some of it to supply feed at their nearby piggery.

Three local buyers, including two neighbours have purchased part of the Gundagurra aggregation.

Prosperity (371.01ha) has been purchased by a direct neighbour with a family-run mixed farming enterprise.

The value of the sales remains undisclosed.

The remaining Gundagurra (433.32ha) and Bluebell (281.33ha) parcels are still for sale after initially being withheld from the market.

“This position has now reverted back to the vendors seeking the realisation of the properties with both properties now being for genuine sale,” Nutrien Harcourts Deniliquin selling agent James Sides said.

Mr Sides said the farms attracted a variety of interest during the sales campaign.

“The property is highly developed and ready to immediately return. The vendors have captured alternative interests and investment opportunities and are now seeking family agri-investors to continue with their dreams of taking the final two masterpieces to new levels of production,” he said.

About 230 cows and calves plus replacements have been carried at Gundagurra alongside sheep and extensive cropping.

“The two remaining properties are highly suited to those seeking water security with access to Murray Irrigation Limited and one of the district’s biggest production bores.

“The soils are without doubt the most superior among all the properties that were offered with highly fertile mixed soils that produced a 14-tonne per hectare rice crop.”

Mr Tait’s Gundagurra was acquired and amalgamated during the past 20 years growing summer and winter crops including rice, wheat, barley, oats, sub clover and lucerne.

The aggregation also carried 3800 sheep, plus 230 cows and calves plus replacements during the past decade.
