TWO grazing properties in the Eastern Riverina in NSW have sold for more than $29 million combined.

The properties, owned by the late Arthur Trethowan, went under the hammer last week.

Mr Trethowan’s Culbara at Woomargama, spanning 1288ha, sold for $19.7 million while his property Arthurs at Culcairn, spanning 432ha, sold for $9.55 million.

Culbara smashed its asking price of more than $14 million while Arthurs also exceeded agents expectations.

Co-selling agent Roger Bramley from Paull and Scollard said both properties were purchased by local buyers.

“We had interest in the lead up to the auction from Melbourne, Sydney and Tasmania,” Mr Bramley said.

“The prices exceeded our expectations but we weren’t surprised given how impressive they are.

“Culbara is one of the biggest properties in that district and has the three things you need – scale, location and rainfall.

“Mr Trethowan was known as a bit of a property legend and had purchased a bunch of different properties”.

Culbara’s improvements include a four-bedroom homestead with each bedroom having its own ensuite, an open living/kitchen area, a large dining/lounge and wide verandas offering views of the district, set in an established garden.

The property also features a second three-bedroom house, three sets of steel cattle yards, a four-stand wool shed, two machinery sheds and four haysheds.

Arthur’s features predominantly well drained alluvial creek loams with an oat crop included in the sale.
