Binns family sell 1000ha of Nhill farmland for millions
Two local buyers will expand their farming operation after 1000ha of Nhill land went under the hammer. See the full prices.
More than 1000ha of Wimmera mixed farmland has been auctioned off to local buyers in multimillion dollar deals.
The Binns family sold 1054ha of farmland near Nhill, to two separate buyers, in deals worth a combined value of at least $6m.
The two parcels of land went to auction on Friday after the family decided to slow down after a lifetime of farming.
The first 651.09ha property, called ‘Block 33’, was passed in at auction but Driscoll, McIllree and Dickinson agent Andrew McIllree said it was sold after the auction at an undisclosed sum, but above the reserve price.
The initial reserve price was $5187 per ha, meaning the property sold for at least $3.34m.
The second property, known as ‘Smiths, spanning 407.11ha, sold at auction for $3.01m, or $7395 per ha.
Mr McIllree said the two separate local buyers remained undisclosed.
He also said there was strong domestic interest in the land throughout the campaign.
This multimillion dollar Wimmera farmland sale comes after the Close family from Apsley paid $19.75m for a property at Edenhope in 2021.
Stand out features of Nhill’s ‘Block 33’ include a recently built shearing shed, mixed lighter loam to Mallee soils which have been clayed and spaded and two solar equipped bores supplying all paddocks.
The ‘Smiths’ property is highlighted by light soils which have been clayed and spaded and access via all weather roads.
The two adjoining properties were marketed as providing diversity and scale to a potential buyer.
‘Block 33’ is located on Yanac Netherby Rd, while ‘Smiths’ is located on Propodollah Netherby Rd.
