A farming family will expand their operation after paying almost $20m to get their hands on a 1486ha property at Edenhope.

Australia’s regional property prices boom

A farm in the Wimmera has sold for almost $20 million under the hammer, after four bidders battled to secure the land last Friday.

The 1486ha property, Yiddinga at Edenhope, was purchased by the Close family from Apsley for $19.75m.

Yiddinga was sold by Andrew Farran who had run a sheep, wool and cropping enterprise on the property for 30 years.

The Close family will use Yiddinga to continue their expansive Merino operation.

Selling agent Max Brown said the property gathered significant interest from potential buyers from across Australia.

“The result was particularly pleasing as it has sold in line with local farm land values,” Mr Brown said.

The Yiddinga property in Victoria’s west sold for almost $20 million in December.

“The purchaser also holds the option to buy the sheep flock on the property of some 15,000 sheep in line with a current local stock agents’ valuation, as well as most of the plant and equipment.

“The property, which was bounded by three main bitumen roads, has had a recent wool clip of the order of 450 bales.”

In addition to the four bidders, the property also attracted enquiries received from all southern states and Western Australia.

The sale of the Yiddinga property comes after US-backed investment partners Proterra, sold their farming properties in southeast Australia for more than $350 million to 23 Australian buyers.
