900,000ha NT cattle stations hit the market
A prominent Queensland cattle farming family are selling two cattle stations, spanning more than 460,000ha each plus more than 32,000 head of cattle.
Two huge NT cattle stations, spanning more than 900,000ha combined, have hit the market, offered for sale by a prominent Queensland cattle farming family.
The Pickersgill family’s Bunderra Cattle Company is selling the 447,500ha Murrunji Station and the 460,900ha Neutral Junction property, home to more than 32,000 head of cattle.
Murrunji Station, located southwest of Daly Waters, was acquired by the Pickersgill family in 2020 for $23m, along with 12,500 cattle, as they expanded their production into the NT.
Two years later they bought Neutral Junction, located near Barrow Creek, from the Firth family for $30m.
Both the Murrunji Station and Neutral Junction were added to the Bunderra Cattle Company’s half a million hectares of grazing country in Queensland, including key properties such as the 35,390ha Aldinga Park at Rolleston and 17,443ha Bandana at Rewan.
However, succession planning and a decision by the Pickersgill family to concentrate operations back in Queensland has brought the properties to market.
No price guide for the stations has been disclosed, which are for sale via expression of interest on a walk-in, walk-out basis, in one line or as separate assets inclusive of all cattle, plant and equipment.
JLL Agribusiness agents Geoff Warriner and Chris Holgar are handling the sale alongside Andrew Gray Land & Livestock agent Andrew Gray.
“Both stations have been the beneficiary of continual capital expenditure resulting in increases in capacity and productivity,” Mr Holgar said.
“They provide scale, efficiency, and access to either domestic or export markets with the added benefit of being organically certified.
“They are being sold on a walk-in walk-out basis providing the incoming purchaser the opportunity to acquire a truly turnkey operation.”
Murrunji Station comprises black and grey clays and red sandy loams with Mitchell, Flinders and Spinifex grasses, along with other native species and various seasonal herbs.
The station is to be sold with 22,600 cattle, fully enclosed by boundary fencing and divided into 32 main grazing paddocks, with 35 holding paddocks and watering squares, along with an internal laneway system.
Meanwhile, the unique and historic Neutral Junction, established in 1907 and grazed since 1884, is supported by Irrigated Stockfeed Production, with two centre pivots irrigating 120ha total.
The station is supported by bores, water tanks, turkey nests and dams with a 1650ML Ground Water Licence.
Neutral Junction is offered with 9442 cattle.
