The Club Hotel in Minyip changes hands
One of the Wimmera’s most famous buildings, with more than 100 years of history and famous appearances on television screens, has been sold for a six-figure sum.
With more than 100 years of history and famous appearances on television screens across the globe, The Club Hotel in Minyip stands as one of the Wimmera’s most renowned buildings.
But now, after being closed for seven years, the historic building is under new ownership after a six-figure deal was finalised.
A Melbourne-based property group has sold the pub to an undisclosed buyer for a figure understood to be worth $275,000.
Ray White Ballarat and Central Highlands rural sales manager Josh Todd brokered the deal and declined to comment on any aspect of the sale.
For the past seven years the pub, which first opened in 1907, has stood idle as a hospitality venue, but has appeared on the big screen.
In 2019 the venue was used as a key piece in Australian film, The Dry, starring Eric Bana and was used as part of the The Flying Doctors television series between 1986 and 1993.
Despite not opening for a number of years, The Club Hotel has also been an attraction for tourists with audiences travelling to Minyip to see the pub.
The Melbourne-based former owners had leased the venue to a publican who was operating the pub.
But since the publican retired, the venue had discontinued trading as a hotel and remained closed.
Plans for how the pub will be used are unclear with the new owners remaining tight-lipped.
No expense was spared when the Federation pub was constructed, comprising more than 40 rooms spread over two levels.
Ornate pressed metal ceilings and decorative ironwork and parapets are some of the original features which remain on the historic building.
The upstairs includes, four bedrooms, guest lounge, linen store, two bathrooms and three toilets.
On the ground floor there is a manager’s accommodation, two dining rooms, kitchen, three bars, cold room and a parlour.
