Territory Polocrosse’s annual spotlight event, the Twilight Carnival, kicks into life this weekend featuring some of the NT’s best in an exhibition test series against Western Australia.
The blockbuster weekend also includes the Territory of Origin match which pits the best born and bred Territorians against those from the rest of the world.
Previous iterations of the event hosted by the Noonamah Polocrosse Club have featured winners from both sides and are always hotly contested.
Peter Maley will captain the born and bred side while Kenny Grimmond takes up the reins of the rest of the world outfit.
The face-off follows a test series match between the NT and WA.
Noonamah Polocrosse Club is also hosting a VIP Polocrosse on the Green event space, an exclusive seating area with food and drinks.
The action continues on Saturday with the annual day night carnival featuring teams from the five NT polocrosse clubs against each other across three grades.
Noonamah representative Brooke Houen said the sport was special because men and women played against each other with equal levels of skill and ferocity.
“I only started riding when I moved to the Territory a few years ago,” she said.
“Polocrosse has been the best hobby I could have picked up, I’ve made friends, bought horses and it’s made me happier than any other activity I’ve tried.
“There’s nothing like the teamwork, atmosphere, mentorship and fun that comes from playing with Noonamah Polocrosse Club.
“I now have two horses of my own that love the game just as much as I do.”
Polocrosse in the Northern Territory began in 1974, and four original clubs were established, with Noonamah now the host of one of the biggest weekends on the calendar.
The sport has continued to rise in popularity and Darwin will become the place to watch it next year after being selected to host the 2026 Polocrosse National Championships from June 22-28.
